People Still Come Together Despite Divisive Figures Pm At Penang Do
Malaysians could still come together and celebrate in peace and harmony despite a few figures trying to stir up tension, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He said this can be seen during the Penang state-level Madani Aidilfitri 2025 celebration at the PICCA Convention Centre @Arena Butterworth today.
“In all these ceremonies, the celebration of the people, both Muslims and Chinese, Indians, and Orang Asli also celebrated in a very peaceful atmosphere, with full love and respect…Congratulations to all Malaysians.
“This proves that at the people’s level, the situation is good, race relations are good.
“I grew up in Bukit Mertajam. The area is multi-racial and there is no tension,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Anwar said the problem arose when a few political figures tried to stir up tension through incitement with the intention of provoking racial hatred among the people.
“(But) today, we can see thousands of Malays, Chinese, Indians eating at the same table and there is no envy or hostility,” he said.
In this regard, he advised the people to realise the strength of Malaysia because there are not many countries inhabited by different races that can surpass this country’s record of unity.
The prime minister also said that Penang can be used as a model state with different races living in harmony.
He also asked Malaysians to unite and focus on the country’s development, thus making it great on the world stage.
The event was also attended by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, and other state leaders.
More than 10,000 visitors of various races thronged the Penang state-level Madani 2025 Aidilfitri celebration with the prime minister today.
