Senior Citizen Arrested For Allegedly Raping Differently Abled Woman In Penang

Southwest district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam. NSTP FILE PICBALIK PULAU: A 64-year-old man has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping a differently-abled woman last Sunday.
Southwest district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said the suspect was arrested after a report was lodged by the 27-year-old victim's mother.
Sazalee said the victim's mother, 47, became suspicious when she couldn't find her daughter upon arriving home at about 6pm on the day of the incident.
The mother then contacted a friend, who informed her that the daughter was not with her. Concerned, the mother asked the friend to accompany her to a relative's house in Bayan Lepas.
Upon arrival, the mother knocked on the door and was greeted by the man wearing only a towel. He told her that her daughter had come to his house to take a bath.
"The mother entered the house and found her daughter naked in the bathroom.
"The victim then told her mother's friend that the man had undressed her and sexually assaulted her," Sazalee said in a statement last night.
Sazalee said that investigations showed the victim was the eldest of three siblings and had not attended school.
She was living with her siblings, mother, and the family of her mother's relatives.
"The incident occurred in the living room of the suspect's house on Sunday. He lives alone, while his wife and children reside in Sungai Pinang, George Town.
"We believe similar incidents may have occurred before, but the victim was unable to provide exact details as she has been a slow learner since childhood and could not give a clear testimony.
"On the day of the incident, the victim had gone to the suspect's house on foot after her mother and siblings had left for work," he added.
Sazalee said the forensic team found sperm stains on the mattress, the suspect's T-shirt, and strands of hair.
He also the victim was taken to Penang Hospital for further medical checks.
"The suspect was later detained and admitted to engaging in sexual acts with the victim," he said. - NST
