Pas Straight Fight Proposal Could Be A Ploy Zahid
PAS’ proposal to avoid multi-corner contests by cooperating with BN and Perikatan Nasional has not gone down well with BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“We respect PAS’ decision. It’s up to them how they want (navigate) the upcoming general election.
“If they want to work together, it has to be ‘totally’ and not just involve (specific) seats (aimed at denying) Pakatan Harapan (a victory).
“We think (PAS’ proposal) was either tactical or a ploy,” said Zahid (above) at the sidelines of the MIC annual delegates assembly.
Zahid said this when asked to comment on PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement that his party will continue its quest to forge an electoral pact with both Umno and Bersatu.
PAS president Abdul Hadi AwangSeveral PAS figures were keen on working with Umno on 24 parliamentary seats that were won by Harapan in 2018.
Harapan was believed to have won the 24 seats thanks to a split in the votes between Umno and PAS.
Meanwhile, Zahid dismissed suggestions that Umno has “stopped” negotiations with PAS.
“We never started negotiations. Thus, the question of beginning or ending talks does not arise.
“Umno will adhere to the decision made by our annual delegates assembly - that we will maintain the Muafakat Nasional pact.
“However, after they had left us (for Perikatan Nasional), we never kicked anyone out nor did we ask anyone else to join us,” said Zahid. - Mkini
