Zahid Says Pas Likely To Side With Bn Sources
Umno leaders attending yesterday's special briefing with the party president and the prime minister were given a glimpse of the battle lines being drawn as the 15th general election draws near.
Sources told Malaysiakini that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s speech at the briefing gave the impression that PAS will side with BN.
“The president gave the impression that PAS will be with BN in the 15th general election.
“That is the gist that we understood. It is highly likely that PAS will be with us,” the source said when contacted yesterday.
Earlier yesterday, Umno’s top brass held a special meeting with its 191 divisions and party wings at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
At a press conference afterwards, Zahid said the meeting, among others, urged PAS to sever ties with Perikatan Nasional soon if it wished to continue cooperating with Umno.
The Bagan Datuk MP said PAS was aware of Umno’s condition and has been given a deadline to fulfil it.
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi speaking to reportersMeanwhile, another source who also attended the briefing corroborated that attendees at the special meeting were given the impression that PAS would be fighting alongside BN in GE15.
However, this source said that there are some within PAS who are working to thwart such cooperation.
“Yes, the president gave the impression and PAS is said to agree with BN’s conditions. However, the cooperation is not called MN (Muafakat Nasional) but MN 2.0.
“It’s just that I’ve got the latest information stating there are those within PAS itself who want to thwart this cooperation. It is understood that these are people close to the PAS president,” the source added. -Mkini
