(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shaari has been queried over a possible conflict of interest in the state government’s appointment of a company linked to the husband of youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh for a transit system.
Selangor PAS Youth chief Sukri Omar said Amirudin should also clearly explain why the state government handed out the project without going through an open tender.
He said a state executive councillor’s explanation about the award showed “it is a direct negotiation”.
Sukri said Amirudin should also explan whether he was “unaware about the conflict of interest” stemming from the appointment of the company, Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd, in which Yeoh’s husband Ramachandran Muniandy is the CEO.
Asia Mobility Technologies is one of two companies selected for the Selangor government’s new demand-responsive transit system to provide first- and last-mile public transport services within the state.
Earlier today, Selangor executive councillor Ng Sze Han said two companies – Asia Mobility Technologies and Badan Bas Coach Sdn Bhd – were selected to run the system.
He said the decision was made after a presentation to the state transport committee and their experience in rolling out their proof of concept.
However, Sukri said Ng’s statement had confirmed that the procurement process consisted of “calling two companies for presentations and then selecting them for this project. Therefore, it is a direct negotiation.”
“One of Pakatan Harapan’s promises under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government was to ensure that only open tenders and Requests for Proposals are implemented.
“Moreover, after becoming prime minister, Anwar stressed that the government would not engage in direct negotiations unless they are security-related projects.” - FMT
