Our Revival Not Due To Your Miracle Medicine Umno Tells Pas
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan is disputing the credit PAS is giving itself for Umno's revival.
This was after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang yesterday lamented that his party had helped to nurse Umno which he described as a "lame duck" but upon recovery, is abandoning them.
"For those calling Umno a duck, goose, tiger or whatever, call what you may please.
"Umno remains the largest Malay party and also the biggest party in Malaysia. Our revival is not due to PAS' miracle medicine," Mohamad (above) said in a statement uploaded on Facebook.
Ultimately, Mohamad said Umno's revival is due to the support of Malays as well as the weakness of their rivals, namely Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The relationship between Umno and PAS has rapidly soured even though they formed a pact under Muafakat Nasional in 2019.
PAS had insisted that Umno's splinter party Bersatu should be included in the pact but Umno is bent on eliminating the party.
Joined forces
PAS had since joined forces with Bersatu to form PN, together with Gerakan, Star and SAPP.
Meanwhile, Umno leads BN together with its partners MCA, MIC and PBRS.
A reinvigorated BN on Jan 22 triggered snap polls in Johor, in a move to oust PN from the state government so BN can govern alone. It also seeks to capitalise on the opposition's weak condition.
Mohamad noted that Hadi declared BN to be irrelevant and insisted PN was the way forward.
"If PAS feels BN is no longer relevant, then we leave it to the people to decide.
"The people will also decide if PAS and PN are relevant or not," he said.
The Election Commission is set to announce the nomination and polling dates for the Johor polls on Feb 9.
BN plans to contest against its ex-allies PN as well as the opposition which has Harapan as the main coalition.
