Pas Asks Home Ministry For Explanation On Ulu Tiram Attack
PAS has asked the Home Ministry for an explanation on the attack in Ulu Tiram this morning, which saw two police officers killed.
In a statement, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan also questioned the preparedness of Malaysian security forces, claiming that it was the reason a suspect escaped.
However, there have been no reports of an escaped suspect, with the police announcing that one suspect was shot dead while another two were arrested.
“The poor level of preparedness at the entrance of the police station which allowed the suspect to escape easily cannot be taken lightly and requires immediate action towards its improvement,” he said.
Takiyuddin was referring to the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station this morning in which two police officers were killed and another was injured.
Later, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the suspected attacker was identified as having links to the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terror group.
Meanwhile, Takiyuddin cautioned the police that any weaknesses will be exploited by those with ulterior motives.
The Home Ministry must provide all that the police need to ensure its officers can perform effectively, he added.
“In this regard, PAS believes that the Home Ministry needs to come up with an honest explanation about the incident, in addition to giving a firm commitment that it will not happen again.
“The Home Ministry also needs to ensure that the security forces, especially the PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police), are given all the support and space to carry out their essential duties effectively without any interference or hindrance,” he said.
Earlier today, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari urged for calm after the attack, as well as for a thorough investigation by the authorities.
After the incident this morning, police seized a Walther P99 pistol and a HK MP5 rifle from the suspect.
Police suspected the 22-year-old man had pre-planned and launched the attack to get his hands on firearms kept at the station, but have yet to fully ascertain the suspect’s agenda.
They have also arrested two students - one male aged 22 and one female aged 21 - who visited the station not long before the attack. - Mkini
