JOHOR POLLS | Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin today emphasised that incumbent Johor menteri besar Hasni Mohammad and Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob are the faces of BN amid campaigning for the Johor polls.
This was as rivals Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional (PN) associated BN with former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who has been convicted of money laundering, abuse of power and criminal breach of trust.
The narrative was further fuelled with Najib actively making high-profile appearances during campaigning for the Johor polls.
"It's okay. That's Harapan and PN's narrative. Let them be.
"Our poster boy here is Hasni and our national leader is Ismail Sabri and I can see that voters also see that.
"We are not haunted by other things," Khairy told journalists after visiting the Iskandar Puteri BN election operations centre in Johor Bharu.
Hasni is also the Johor BN chief while Ismail Sabri is the Umno vice president.
Khairy said he expected Hasni to be reappointed as the menteri besar if BN wins in the Johor polls.
Accompanying him were MCA's candidate for Skudai Lim Soon Hai and Umno's candidate for Kota Iskandar Pandak Ahmad.
Skudai and Kota Iskandar are state seats within the parliamentary constituency of Iskandar Puteri.
‘BN has nothing to do with corruption’
Khairy also refuted arguments that voters should not back BN as it is a coalition for corruption.
"BN is offering its aspirations to the people. It has nothing to do with corrupt leaders.
"Our party leader is Hasni. He has good credibility and the voters accept him. Ismail Sabri also has no problems," he added.
Khairy was asked to respond to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang who had called on voters to punish Umno and BN.
Earlier, Khairy who was once again on a working visit to Johor after an earlier trip on Feb 27, visited the Gelang Patah government health clinic where he also brought a BN candidate along.
However, both of them made it a point not to wear any BN-related clothing although their supporters who were present continued to wear clothing with the BN logo.
Campaigning for the Johor polls kicked off on Feb 24. Johoreans will go to the polls on March 12. - Mkini
