Indigo Goat3056: What’s wrong with Nurul Izzah Anwar being nominated for PKR's deputy president? When Anwar Ibrahim was in prison, Nurul Izzah, alongside his wife Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, fought tirelessly for his release.
Why didn’t anyone talk about nepotism back then? Nurul Izzah is fully qualified to run - she represents the true spirit of reform. In fact, she was even once proposed as Malaysia’s first female Prime Minister.
And Rafizi Ramli - who is he really? Good at talking, but everything he promised before the general election turned out to be empty promises. All the best, Nurul Izzah.
Knucklehead: Nurul Izzah? Give me a break! Apart from shouting 'Reformasi' and being the daughter of a jailed opposition leader, what has she truly contributed or shown in terms of leadership?
Can she step up and tackle economic issues, or lead Malaysia out of the 3R crisis? Her father failed to do so, instead focusing on Gaza.
It’s time to move beyond these legacy leaders and their families. Take a look at the worst of them - Najib Abdul Razak, the jailed felon.
Malaysia needs real intelligent leaders who can lead, think and are bold enough to set things right!
KNSamy: As deputy president of PKR, Rafizi was cast aside by Anwar, who is PKR president. Anwar did this just to soothe the feelings of his new found friends in Umno.
This is because Rafizi has strong views about condoning corruption even among the so-called friends.
Hence, Anwar has obviously planned to get Rafizi out of the PKR leadership with assistance from his trusted ally, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the home minister.
Rafizi's ideas have been put in cold storage by Anwar, and, as the economy minister, Rafizi was kept away from the masses quite successfully - with lots of mocking by those afraid of his existence in the government through the electronic media.
It is really surprising that political observers and commentators in Malaysia have not seen this treatment by the PM, especially the Umno politicians who can't stand Rafizi's confidence and ability shown in Parliament.
PKR without Rafizi will be a lame duck, but with cooperation from Umno or PAS keeping DAP on its toes in Peninsular Malaysia, Anwar may be able to maintain his premiership for one more term - but PKR will end up a loser ultimately.
Vent: At the end of the day, this is all about Anwar's machinations to stay unopposed in power. The man has no morals or decency either.
He'll feed anyone to the wolves including his most loyal. By all accounts, former PKR deputy Azmin Ali has been dubbed a traitor now.
But his long and fruitless loyalty to Anwar cost him his family ties and besmirched his wife's reputation too.
Now another loyalist Rafizi to whom Anwar should be deeply indebted to for being in power is being cast aside via a cowardly and shameful bid to maintain that power and hand it over in time to a daughter who is a failed politician.
Just shows him up even more for what he is; a ruthless unconscionable politician quite apart from being an avowed Islamist!
So "the future of PKR as a party that remains relevant and trusted by the people" lies in the hands of a toppled Princess and an unelected poodle? And just how vaingloriously presumptuous it is to claim that PKR is 'trusted by the people"! Is it even relevant to begin with?
MarioT: PKR should avoid a family monopoly. The deputy's post must be contested by others and Rafizi appears to be the better choice to retain his post.
Too much infighting and rivalry will weaken the party with a withdrawal of support for it.
She has not contributed much and has been seen to keep out of the limelight. Electing her would in fact secure Anwar's position and nothing more. - Mkini
