Of Course It S About Race And Religion
And race and religion are going to decide the outcome of the Melaka state election this Saturday. Malays are going to vote Malay while the non-Malays are going to vote anti-Malay. And some candidates are going to be punished by the Malay-Muslim voters because they are seen as traitors to the Malay race and Islam.

But of course Malaysian politics is about race and religion, period. That’s like stating water is wet. Did they think Malaysian politics is about good governance, transparency, accountability, efficiency, opposing abuse of power and corruption, democracy, human rights, civil liberties, equality, justice, independence of the judiciary, checks and balances, and so on?
Slogans regarding good governance, transparency, accountability, efficiency, opposing abuse of power and corruption, democracy, human rights, civil liberties, equality, justice, independence of the judiciary, checks and balances, etc., are merely sound bites to con the voters. These are not what politicians and political parties sincerely believe in.
Umno was formed in 1946 to serve race and religion.
The Islamists broke away from Umno and formed PAS in 1951 because of race and religion.
DAP was formed in 1965 to serve race and religion, mainly the non-Muslims and the non-Malays, against what they perceived as a threat from the Malays-Muslims.
The May 13, 1969, race riots erupted because the opposition used race and religion in their general election campaign (I personally witnessed this in Bangsar and Brickfields). During the post-election ‘victory parade’, they hurled racial slurs at the Malays, which was the last straw the broke the camel’s back and was the trigger for the race riots.
Barisan Nasional was formed in 1973 because of race and religion (to protect Malay political power).
DAP refused to join Barisan Nasional in 1973 because of race and religion (they did not want to compromise on Chinese interests).
Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah lost the Umno party election in 1987 because of race and religion (he was accused of being a Chinese stooge).
DAP refused to join Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s Semangat 46 in 1990 (if PAS was included) because of race and religion (they opposed Islam, and hence by extension opposed PAS as well).
DAP and their non-Malay supporters joined Barisan Alternatif in 1999 because of race and religion (they felt this would help split the Malay-Muslim votes).
DAP left Barisan Alternatif in 2001 because of race and religion (to oppose Terengganu’s shariah amendment bill in the Terengganu state assembly).
The opposition got wiped out in the 2004 general election because of race and religion (Barisan Alternatif showed it was anti-Malay and anti-Islam).
The decline of Umno and Barisan Nasional, which began in 2008 and finally reached the peak in 2018, was because of race and religion.
More than 97% of the Chinese supported and voted for DAP and Pakatan Rakyat-Harapan in 2008, 2013 and 2018 because of race and religion (the Umno-BN ‘Malay’ government was seen as a threat to the non-Malays/non-Muslims).
The non-Malays accepted Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister in 2018 because of race and religion (DAP told the Chinese that by supporting Mahathir they could use Malays to fight Malays).
The Pakatan Harapan government collapsed in 2020 after just 22 months in power because of race and religion (the Malays suddenly realised the danger DAP was posing to the Malays and Islam and they wanted to form a new Malay alliance).
And I no longer support the opposition like I used to for 40 years from 1975 to 2015 because DAP kicked PAS out of Pakatan Rakyat due to the Shariah amendment bill a.k.a. RUU355.
In fact, Pakatan Harapan is even worse. At least Umno and PAS admit they are fighting for the Malays and Islam. Pakatan Harapan is pretending they are fighting for good governance, transparency, accountability, efficiency, opposing abuse of power and corruption, democracy, human rights, civil liberties, equality, justice, independence of the judiciary, checks and balances, and more. However, when in power, Pakatan proved worse than those they accuse of various transgressions and are, in fact, the enemy of the people.
