Something Smells Fishy Another Customer Complains About Eye Watering Price Of Siakap Dish

PETALING JAYA: With news of a Langkawi restaurant selling a sea bass (siakap) dish for an exorbitant price boiling over in social media, another woman has come forward complaining about another eatery on the island that charged her RM1,738.70.
Facebook user, Niena ZM recounted her experience while on holiday with her family in Langkawi Island, Kedah recently.
Niena said the incident happened on Wednesday (Nov 3) while eating at a floating restaurant after boarding a boat to see the natural beauty at Kilim Geoforest Park.
“Logically, the owner should tell us how much the fish costs based on its size per gramme so that customers can decide to place an order or not.
"When we want to order, the employees should be able to explain the estimated price of the food ordered if they do business transparently.
“Even the tomyam shop in Kuala Lumpur usually will explain the food size and price and give suitable recommendations for customers," she said, adding that she ordered food for 10 adults and 11 children.
She claimed that the employees at the restaurant only took orders without telling the actual price.
According to Niena, the restaurant did not show the size of the fish when they placed the order.
"The shop has a display of the price per gram, we are not arguing that the sea bass is RM160/kg. We want to highlight that the size of the fish given is slightly larger than the normal sea bass which is 5.2kg.
"When the food arrived, we wondered if the fish could be divided into three plates.
“At that time, it was unpleasant to see that the size of the fish’s tail alone was the size of a regular fish,” she was quoted as saying in Malay-language news portal Majoriti.
Niena explained that they were charged 1kg respectively for shrimp and squid although they did not order that much.
"We were charged 1kg for shrimp and squid in the receipts even though we did not ask for that much.
“The dishes were served in two plates but it looked less than 1kg," she wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Nov 3).
Although the seafood served by the restaurant was fresh, Niena said the dishes were not tasty.
She said she decided to share her experience on social media so that others would not fall victim.
On Thursday (Nov 4), it was reported that another Facebook user Muhammad Faris Zulkarnain had expressed shock that he was charged RM1196.80 for a sea bass dish.
Muhammad Faris claimed that the incident, which had since gone viral on social, happened on Tuesday (Nov 2) when he along with his family and colleagues went on a boat ride (Mangrove Tour Langkawi) around several islands and places of interest there.
He said that after finishing the meal and the fish ordered was still half left and packed, he was surprised when he wanted to pay at the bill counter with a value of RM1852.50.
Since he did not have enough cash and it was over his debit card limit, Muhammad Faris had to pay the amount using a credit card.
The owner of the restaurant, however, explained that she had suggested another dish to the customer, but claimed that the customer had insisted that they wanted the sea bass. - Star
