No Big Brother In Pn More Seats For Pas Due To Seniority Muhyiddin
The term “big brother” does not exist in Perikatan Nasional despite PAS being allocated most seats in the upcoming state polls, said coalition chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin explained that it is a fact PAS has a more prolonged presence compared to his party Bersatu and, as such, has many incumbent seats in states such as Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.
“We don’t have ‘big brother’ or ‘little brother’. I am the president of Bersatu and the chairperson of PN, which PAS supports.
“It doesn’t matter who leads, as long as we have the same determination and (are) in the same fight,” he told reporters at a press conference in Pagoh today.
The former prime minister was responding to claims that PAS is the “big brother” in PN as the Islamist party will be contesting 126 seats out of 245 in the upcoming state elections. Bersatu will contest 83 seats, while Gerakan will fight to win 36.
Fair seat allocation
Elaborating, Muhyiddin said the distribution of seats was done fairly, even though PAS is contesting many seats in the East Coast states and Kedah.
“In Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, there are more (seats for) Bersatu… likewise in Penang.
“For us, it’s not a problem and it (the distribution of seats in PN) has been decided well.”
However, PN has yet to decide on the list of candidates to be fielded in the state elections.
Matters about selecting new faces will be decided after considering whether the seat incumbents are still eligible to run or otherwise, he added.
“No matter what, we will ensure that there is fair or appropriate participation from the categories of candidates that will be presented to us.”
The states due to hold elections this year are PAS-ruled Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan, as well as Pakatan Harapan-held Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
