PETALING JAYA: Natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has offered himself as president of the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) when it holds its congress in September.
In a TikTok video posted tonight, Nik Nazmi, who is also the Setiawangsa MP, said he has discussed the association’s leadership with several corporate figures and professionals in government institutions.
“The trouble faced by Kuala Lumpur City FC has received widespread attention. As a fan and public representative, I am also affected by this.

We accept that KL City faces legitimate action. But we hope due consideration can be given in the deduction of points from its players who have fought to the end on the football field, he said.
On Monday, the club was docked six points by the Malaysian Football League for submitting inaccurate declarations in its application for this season’s national and Asian Football Confederation licences.
The club had also been fined RM50,000 and banned from conducting player transfers until the end of the 2024/2025 season for violating the terms of the national licence application.
Earlier last month, Nik Nazmi was reported by Berita Harian as refusing to respond to speculation that he would run for the presidency of KLFA, saying he had no plans in that direction.
The Setiawangsa Rangers FC patron said his focus was on the club instead, and that his support for KL City was because it is within his parliamentary constituency.
In his post tonight, he said though he understands many politicians have come and gone in KLFA, he is not contesting the presidency for popularity or profit.
“I am offering myself in the awareness that this is a huge responsibility to return the fans’ trust to Kuala Lumpur.

Football in Kuala Lumpur deserves something better. It is time to bring back the dignity of football in the capital city, he said. - FMT
