Ngos Call For Waytha S Removal
NGO Kelab LLLM is calling for the removal of P Waythamoorthy from his post as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of national unity and social wellbeing
Its deputy president Adillah Jamaluddin said that Waythamoorthy had failed to ease the tension and tackle the issue surrounding the riots at Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple, which claimed the life of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim
"Waythamoorthy had failed to go down and ease tensions in the wake of the temple riot
"The second day of the riots went out of control and the incident claimed Adib's life," he said
He noted that the call was not political or racially motivated but instead to seek justice for Adib
About 3pm today, Adillah led a group of about 70 people to hand a memorandum to the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Putrajaya
When he was met outside the PMO building, Adillah said that the NGO had handed a memorandum to Mahathir's political secretary Abu Bakar Yahya
"We are not here to bring racial or political issues but to seek justice for the tragedy which took Adib's life
"Waythamoorthy has failed as the unity minister. Therefore, we urge the Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to remove him from this post
"This will help to soothe the feelings of Malaysians who were hurt by the incident," Adillah said, adding that Selangor state executive councillor V Ganabatirau must also take responsibility and be removed from his post
Last month, Ganabatirau had apologised to the public for blaming a "Muslim group" for the attack on the temple and then changed his statement to a "group of gangsters"
Earlier, NGO Ummah had also submitted a similar memorandum at PMO, but Adillah said LLLM was different as it didn't fan a racial issue
Calls for Waythamoorthy to be axed from his position has grown louder following Adib's death
The 24-year-old was among a team of nine firefighters who had been deployed in response to vehicles being torched by rioters outside the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple on Nov 27
According to the police, he was dragged out of the vehicle and assaulted
Waythamoorthy is accused of having flamed tensions when he and three other ministers chastised police for the latter's initial observation that fighting at the temple was between two Indian groups
A social media campaign calling for Waythamoorthy to resign has gained more than 300,000 signatures so far.Yesterday, Hindraf claimed that its chairperson Waythamoorthy is being made a scapegoat in the politics of race and religion. - Mkini
