Netizens Say Northern Voters Shifting To Selangor Can Be A Double Edge Sword For Pas

A FEW weeks ago, a controversial post by a PAS Facebook page suggested that those of Kelantan origins should change their addresses to a Selangor as this will help them to vote for the opposition in the state.
However, this statement backfired on them heavily especially among the netizens. The argument is that this can turn out to be a double-edge sword that plays against PAS in Kelantan.
PKR has criticised the call by PAS Selangor urging supporters to transfer their voting addresses to the state.
Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, in a statement, condemned the move as a desperate tactic by PAS to seize control of the Pakatan Harapan-led state.
She argued that flooding Selangor with external voters undermines locals’ rights to choose their leaders, betrays democratic principles, and mocks the electoral system.
Rodziah called it a sign of PAS’s failure to win Selangor voters transparently, questioning their confidence in genuine support and accusing them of resorting to underhanded strategies due to a lack of fresh ideas.
Nevertheless, PKR Selangor Communications Director Mohd Fauzi Fadzil described PAS Selangor Commissioner Ab Halim Tamuri’s tactic for Kelantanese to register in Selangor to vote as sabotage against PAS Kelantan’s efforts to retain power in the northern state.
Fauzi noted that external voters were crucial to PAS’s success in Kelantan during GE14, and similar strategies were used for GE15, with buses provided for voters to return home.
Social media users warn that PAS’s strategy of shifting voters to Selangor could backfire, weakening its grip on Kelantan by reducing its voter base there.
This might produce the opposite of PAS’s intended outcome, as Pakatan Harapan supporters in Kelantan could align with Barisan Nasional, potentially tipping the scales against PAS in its stronghold.

However, on a different note, netizens add that Kelantanese people voting for PAS in Selangor would be a peculiar sight to see.
Social media users questioned whether their home states offer sufficient job opportunities, noting that many move to Selangor for work.
Curiously, despite high joblessness back home, they continue voting for the same political parties in their original states, raising eyebrows about their loyalty and priorities.

Some argue that out-of-state individuals are often renters, not homeowners, and believe it’s unwise or unbeneficial for voters to temporarily or permanently link their voting address to a rented property.

They question the practicality and value of such a move for those without a stable stake in the area. — Focus Malaysia
