Negri Postpones Events To Contain Spread Of Virus

SEREMBAN: The state government has postponed several events and also directed government agencies to defer or cancel programmes involving more than 250 people as part of efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (pic) said although the number of cases in the state was under control, more measures were needed to effectively prevent the disease from spreading.

“We have decided to implement these measures to better fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Everyone from the government, business sectors and the public should take this matter seriously,” he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting yesterday.

Among the events that have been postponed are the state-level Environment Day, Children’s Day, NS Employment Carnival, the Khatam Hafaz Al-Quran convention, and the Community Rehabilitation Organisation convention.

Other events include the New Horizon Innovation and Creative Group convention, as well as a ceremony to reward the winners of the post-MCO Crops Production event.

Aminuddin said government departments which could not defer or cancel programmes must organise them under “very strict” standard operating procedure (SOP).

He also urged eateries to strictly comply with the SOP issued by the authorities.

Citing an example, he said many popular roadside eateries in places like Pedas and Kuala Pilah did not follow them.

“Many people, especially from neighbouring states, patronise these places and I have been told that they often ignore the SOP.

“Owners must ensure their customers observe physical distancing,” Aminuddin said.

He added that wedding ceremonies held at private homes also often breached the SOP.

On another matter, Aminuddin said the state government would supply ration to households that have been ordered to undergo a 14-day quarantine.

The ration will be supplied by the state Welfare Department.
