Nazri Has No Right To Speak As Bn Sec Gen Say Mca And Mic
MCA president Wee Ka Siong and his MIC counterpart, SA Vigneswaran, say Nazri Aziz should not attend Friday’s BN meeting.PETALING JAYA: The spat between Nazri Aziz and MCA and MIC has widened, with the two parties maintaining that he has no right to speak as the Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general
At a meeting last night, the two parties resolved that Nazri’s appointment last September was not in accordance with the BN constitution
MCA president Wee Ka Siong and his MIC counterpart, SA Vigneswaran, said the BN constitution stipulated that the secretary-general should be appointed by the BN chairman after consultation with the Supreme Council to hold office for two years
However, they said Nazri’s appointment had never been discussed or officially approved in the BN Supreme Council even though it was announced by BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the opening of the MIC general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre on Oct 27
“Yesterday, Nazri once again used the title of BN secretary-general to continue criticising MCA and MIC
“MCA and MIC’s stand is that Nazri has no locus standi to make any statement as the BN secretary-general,” the two parties said in a joint statement
Wee and Vigneswaran said the parties had made their stand clear to the BN secretariat that Nazri is not eligible to attend the BN Supreme Council meeting as secretary-general this Friday
“Should Nazri be stubborn and attend this meeting, then its validity will be brought into dispute
“To avoid any legal dispute, MCA and MIC will only attend a valid BN Supreme Council meeting,” the statement added, without mentioning whether the parties will attend
The spat between the two parties and Nazri came to a head yesterday when Nazri told MCA and MIC, which had accused him of undermining BN’s multiracial make-up, to “go ahead and leave” the coalition
“Go ahead, walk the talk. Don’t just talk,” Nazri told FMT when asked to respond to an earlier joint statement by Wee and Vigneswaran that they were exploring “a new alliance”
Nazri said Umno was also looking to form a new alliance with PAS
Wee and Vigneswaran had expressed disappointment with the silence of Umno leaders over what they said were “racial remarks” by Nazri
They referred to Nazri’s statements in which he questioned the appointment of non-Muslim appointees to top posts, saying they were not able to be sworn in using the Quran
Nazri later explained that he was merely reflecting the sentiments on the ground
Asked this afternoon about the latest statement by Wee and Vigneswaran, Nazri said he had no knowledge of it. -FMT
