Najib S House Arrest Bid Verdict Brought Forward To Dec 22
The decision for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s judicial review application involving his house arrest bid has been brought forward to Dec 22.
This is according to a brief message sent today by Najib's special officer, Ahmad Lutfi Azhar.
Yesterday, the Kuala Lumpur High Court fixed Jan 5 next year for the decision.
Najib filed the judicial review on April 3 last year, claiming that the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong had issued a royal addendum on Jan 29 the same year, allowing him to serve the remaining of his jail term at home.
The addendum was said to have been issued on the same day that the Federal Territories Pardons Board decided to slash Najib’s jail time from 12 years to six and reduce his fine from RM210 million to RM50 million.

Through the judicial review, the former Pekan MP is seeking a mandamus order to compel the respondents - the government and the attorney-general - to provide the original version of the royal addendum, costs and any other relief deemed fit by the court.
Najib is also seeking a court order to compel the respondents to not only confirm the royal addendum but also to “forthwith remove the applicant from the Kajang prison facility to his known residence(s) in Kuala Lumpur, where the applicant would continue to serve his imprisonment sentence under house arrest”.
Other respondents are the home minister, Prison Department commissioner-general, Federal Territories Pardons Board, minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) and the Prime Minister’s Department’s Legal Affairs Division director-general.
On Jan 6, Najib’s counsel Shafee Abdullah tabled a letter from the Pahang palace before the Court of Appeal, confirming that the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, had issued a royal addendum concerning the house arrest for Najib.

Defence counsel Shafee AbdullahPrime Minister Anwar Ibrahim later acknowledged that the attorney-general did receive a letter regarding the royal addendum.
However, he said that after the letter was received, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong changed, and the attorney-general submitted the letter to Istana Negara to allow the newly appointed Agong, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, to decide.
