(YouTube pic)PETALING JAYA: Religious affairs minister Na’im Mokhtar has thanked music label Universal Music Malaysia for taking down a music video by Malaysian girl group Dolla from all their official platforms
He said the takedown showed the label’s “discernment and responsibility” and reflected the industry’s sensitivity to community voices and “shared values”.
“May this inspire all entertainment industry players to create with a deeper sense of responsibility and care for the community,” Kosmo reported him as saying today.
Universal Music Malaysia had taken down the music video for the group’s latest song, “Question”, released on Nov 6, which had sparked heated reactions from conservatives on social media for their revealing attire.
The video showed members Sabronzo (Wan Sabrina Wan Rusli), Tabby (Tabitha Ariel Lam) and Angel (Angelina Chai) dressed in halter neck tops with corset bodices paired with miniskirts, and in outfits with bare shoulders and exposed midriffs.
Netizens also criticised Sabronzo for her behaviour and attire despite being Muslim. Na’im also said yesterday that he would consider filing shariah offence charges against her. “We shall see if they are in breach of any regulations and shariah law enactments. Shariah legal action is within our consideration,” Berita Harian quoted him as saying. - FMT
