N Sembilan Nominates Dap Pkr Duo To Senate Amid Protest Row
The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly has passed a motion to nominate DAP central executive committee member Vincent Wu and Rembau PKR division chief Jufitri Joha as senators representing the state in the Dewan Negara.
The motion was tabled by Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun and seconded by state executive council member Teo Kok Seong yesterday.
Only five opposition assemblypersons reportedly abstained from voting, while the rest supported the motion.
This round of Senate nominations drew public attention following a protest involving “sanitary pad masks”, led by Negeri Sembilan DAP Veterans’ Club chairperson Lee Kong Hing on Aug 3.
ADSThe protest over the appointment of Wu, perceived by local grassroots as an “outsider”, sparked controversy over alleged sexism. Lee later apologised for his actions the following day, on Aug 4.
‘Weighty responsibility’
After the nomination motion was passed, Wu expressed his gratitude in a Facebook post, thanking the state assembly and its members for their trust and mandate.
“This appointment is not merely an affirmation of me personally, but more importantly, a weighty responsibility. I will devote myself fully to carrying out the duties of a senator,” he wrote.

He also pledged to ensure that rural areas are not left behind in terms of infrastructure and access to education, and to help narrow the urban-rural development gap.
Additionally, he vowed to promote greater youth participation in the country’s democratic and economic development, and called on the government to uphold transparency and accountability in public finances and policy implementation.
“I believe the voice of Negeri Sembilan must be heard loud and clear in national decision-making,” he said.
Accepting criticism with open heart
Wu said he respected the voices criticising him as an “outsider” and received them with an open mind.

The Negeri Sembilan Veterans’ Club protesting Vincent Wu’s nomination to the Senate“Although I was born in Johor, I have long served in various states across the country. Senators are appointed under the Federal Constitution through a state assembly nomination. I respect all procedures and decisions.
“I also acknowledge that differing views are part and parcel of democracy, and I will not allow personal sentiments to override my broader responsibilities.
“I hold the voices of all party veterans and grassroots members in high regard. Criticism is not the problem - silence is. As long as the intent is sincere and for the good of the country and the people, I am always willing to listen,” he said.
Wu, 61, has long been involved in community service and grassroots organisation within the party. According to Bernama, he was also involved in coordinating DAP’s flood relief efforts in 2014 and 2021.
Meanwhile, Jufitri, 46, served as president of the Malaysian Youth Council from 2018 to 2022. He is also active in professional youth work and advocacy for persons with disabilities. - Mkini
