Muhyiddin Defends Factual Nenggiri Speech

PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said he is confident that a controversial speech he delivered during the Nenggiri by-election campaign does not violate any Malaysian law. (FMT) – Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has defended a speech he made when campaigning for the Nenggiri by-election, which is now a subject of a police probe, saying it was not intended to insult the monarchy.
In a statement, the former prime minister insisted that his speech was factual and not meant to incite the public.
“I believe that my statement does not violate any of Malaysia’s laws.
I will cooperate fully with the police and clarify my speech.
In a ceramah, Muhyiddin claimed that for some reason, he was not invited by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, to be sworn in as prime minister after the 15th general election despite obtaining the majority to form the government.
Muhyiddin’s claim has led to 29 police reports being lodged against him, claiming he had questioned the king’s authority and calling for stern action to be taken.
Earlier today, the Pahang crown prince also called for the police to act decisively against Muhyiddin.
Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah said Muhyiddin deliberately disparaged Sultan Abdullah during his tenure as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Last night, it was reported that the probe against the Bersatu president would be carried out by the Classified Crimes Investigation Unit of Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department for allegedly touching on sensitive issues related to the 3Rs — race, religion and royalty.
Muhyiddin is expected to have his statement recorded by police tomorrow.
