More Mic Members Quitting To Support Pn Says Selangor Chapter
PN is said to be mulling an all-Indian committee, fronted by former MIC leaders. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Selangor Perikatan Nasional says more MIC members have quit the party to throw their support for the coalition.
“More and more MIC members, especially in Selangor, who disagree with the party’s leadership, have decided to leave the party to be with PN to champion the Indian community.
“Pakatan Harapan is seen as no longer relevant in raising the voice of the Indian community because it promises more than it takes action,” Selangor PN said in a Facebook post today.
It said the community used to be a vote bank for Barisan Nasional when MIC was tasked with upholding Indian rights and issues.
“However, since 2008, after the fall of BN in Selangor, MIC has increasingly lost the votes of the Indian community and the party continues to struggle to win the hearts of these people again.
“This happened because the loyalty of the Indian voters at that time was abused, causing them to switch support,” it said.
Earlier this month, FMT quoted a source as saying that PN was forming an all-Indian committee, fronted by former MIC leaders, with a view to setting up a new single-race party within the opposition coalition.
The source said a recent high-profile departure from MIC was expected to head the committee.
Last month, former MIC vice-president C Sivaraj and Selangor youth chief P Punithan quit the party.
Sivaraj said he wanted to continue serving the Indian community as a senator and a leader without any hindrance, “especially from the MIC leadership”.
He said several “incidents” had occurred under MIC president SA Vigneswaran’s leadership that forced him to relinquish his membership. - FMT
