Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the end of EMCO in localities in three areas.PETALING JAYA: Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob will announce tomorrow more detailed SOPs surrounding the new movement control order.
“The prime minister has announced the MCO with stricter SOPs. However, I will announce more details during tomorrow’s daily press conference at 5pm,” he said in a statement today.
“At the same time, ministries such as education; international trade and industry; and works will also announces SOPs related to their respective ministries.”
Earlier, prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that five states would come under a 14-day MCO from Wednesday following the recent surge in Covid-19 cases.
The five states are Selangor, Penang, Melaka, Johor, Sabah and the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya. A conditional MCO will be imposed on Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan while Perlis and Sarawak will come under recovery MCO.
Ismail announced today the end of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in localities in three areas.
They are the Madrasah Daril Naim in Kota Baru, Kelantan; Kampung Paginatan and Kampung Maringkan in Ranau, Sabah; and the Kamunting Correctional Centre (Kemta) in Taiping, Perak, as well as its staff quarters.
The EMCO at the Madrasah Daril Naim as well as Kampung Paginatan and Kampung Maringkan will end today as scheduled.
The EMCO at the Kamunting Correctional Centre will end tomorrow as scheduled except for four blocks housing inmates, which will be extended until Jan 26.
Meanwhile, 572 people were arrested by the police yesterday over movement control order-related offences. One of the offenders was remanded while the others were fined.
Most of the offences, he said, were for failing to wear face masks. Among the other offences include participating in activities at nightclubs and pubs, failing to provide materials for contact tracing registration and participating in activities which made physical distancing difficult.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,459 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 14,017 supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transport terminals.
The authorities also detained 16 undocumented migrants and eight smugglers yesterday as part of the ongoing Ops Benteng campaign. They also confiscated three vehicles.
Regarding the mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said 102,642 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 to Jan 10 and were placed under quarantine.
A total of 540 tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, while 93,727 have been allowed to return home.
Another 8,375 people are undergoing mandatory quarantine. - FMT
