Ministers To Discuss Reopening Of International Borders Muhyiddin
The National Recovery Council (NRC) had deliberated on the issue of reopening Malaysia's international borders to foreign visitors, according to its chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin said he raised the matter to relevant ministers earlier today who indicated that further discussions will be held sometime this week.
"On the reopening of borders, I have raised the matter earlier and received a response.
"This is being looked into by the relevant ministers and will be discussed this week to determine the rationale behind reopening borders and allowing our people to leave the country," Muhyiddin said at a press conference in Putrajaya.
He noted the decision to be made will have a big impact on national recovery with entries of foreign tourists, workers, investors and others.

Muhyiddin also reiterated Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin's previous statement that interstate travels could be permitted after the national vaccination rate has exceeded 90 percent.
"As per what we were informed earlier, maybe in October. Either early October or latest by mid-October.
"So all of you can go all over Malaysia, but just remember the SOPs," he added.
'State recovery councils'
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin also announced that the meeting has approved a proposal to set up state recovery councils - tasked with implementing decisions made by National Recovery Council (NRC) - to be chaired by menteri besar and chief ministers.
He said with the formation of the NRC, existing committees at district levels will be focused on executing and monitoring initiatives in their respective areas.
"The proposal to set up the National Recovery Council and related mechanisms will be presented to the prime minister and the cabinet for consideration and approval," said Muhyiddin.
Other matters discussed include preparations for reopening of schools and institutions of higher education, added Muhyiddin.
Muhyiddin had earlier chaired his first NRC meeting since being appointed to the position, shortly after his resignation as prime minister. - Mkini
