Mic Denies Silent Boycott Of Kkb By Election Threatens Suit
MIC information chief Thinalan T Rajagopalu said the party’s leadership has been actively involved in campaigning in the Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: MIC has denied claims of a “silent boycott” of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election and is considering legal action against anyone making such accusations, party information chief Thinalan T Rajagopalu said.
He said MIC maintains a united front and fully supports the Pakatan Harapan candidate in the by-election.
“Any attempt to sow discord or spread misinformation will not be tolerated.
“The party reserves the right to take appropriate legal action against any party or individual spreading false claims that undermine the integrity of the party and its leadership,” he said in a statement.
Thinalan said MIC’s leadership has been actively involved in campaigning in the Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency.
“Any claims suggesting internal dissent or lack of support for the party’s decision are simply untrue,” he said.
The Malaysian Insight recently reported that internal conflicts are affecting MIC’s support for the PH candidate in the by-election.
According to sources cited in the report, not all members are enthusiastic about campaigning for PH, despite being part of the unity government.
The dissatisfaction stems from perceptions that the party is being exploited by the unity government, particularly PH, for its own advantage.
Thinalan said the party has demanded that The Malaysian Insight and its journalists disclose their sources. Should they fail to do so, he said, the party will take legal action.
The by-election on May 11 will see a four-way contest among PH’s Pang Sock Tao, Khairul Azhari Saut of Perikatan Nasional, Hafizah Zainuddin of Parti Rakyat Malaysia and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin. - FMT
