AS Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters rejoiced over the victory of DAP’s political greenhorn Pang Sock Tao against her Perikatan Nasional (PN) rival by a 3,869-vote majority in the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) state by-election, the opposition coalition has reiterated its stance to file a petition to nullify outcome of yesterday’s (May 11) polls.
Pang who was the former press secretary to Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming had garnered 14,000 votes against the 10,131 polled by Bersatu’s Hulu Selangor acting division chief Khairul Azhari Saut.
Both the independent and Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) candidates Nyau Ke Xin and Hafizah Zainuddin lost their deposit after having obtained only 188 votes and 152 votes respectively.
Following the announcement of the official result by elections officer Yuhanas Auree Kamaruddin at the Hulu Selangor District Multi-Purpose Hall and Sports Complex last night, PN Youth information chief Nadzir Helmi noted that the previously announced election petition in the event that PN loses the KKB by-election “shall be realised”.

Recall that opposition chief whip and PAS secretary-general, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan had stated recently that PN will submit an election petition if PH wins the KKB state by-election.
“The action follows the government’s abuse of power and machinery before and during the KKB by-election campaign,” the Kota Bharu MP had said among others.
Meanwhile, PN accepted the choice of KKB voters in yesterday’s by-election, according to the coalition’s chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin“I thanked the voters who picked the PN candidate as well as the PN machinery which had worked hard in the PN campaign,” penned the Bersatu president in a media statement.
“At a glance, the level of support for PN is reflected by the low turnout (for the by-election). PN will examine the outcome of this by-election in detail and take steps to further increase support for the coalition in the future.”
Meanwhile, the opposition coalition did not rule out the possibility of outstation workers who did not return to vote as a contributing factor to the coalition’s defeat in the KKB state by-election (PRK).
Its deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Peja) said preliminary analysis of the percentage of outside voters who returned to vote was found to be low.
As PN does its self-reflection for its defeat, the triumphant Pang has announced her “moving over to live in KKB so that she can better look after the well-being of the local folks”.
