Mic Decides Not To Join Pn Party Source
MIC has withdrawn its bid to join the loose Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, according to a source within the party
The MIC member, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed this to Malaysiakini today in relation to today's news report from Free Malaysia Today
The online news portal reported on MIC’s withdrawal decision by referring to a Registrar of Societies (RoS) letter sighted by the portal
The report stated that MIC made the decision based on Umno’s own decision not to join PN
It was reported that in the letter to the RoS, MIC secretary-general M Asojan Muniyandy said his party initially agreed to join PN on the assumption that Umno and BN would join too
“But because Umno said it has no intention of joining PN on July 29, the decision made by the MIC supreme council on July 10 is not applicable
“Hence until a new decision is reached by MIC’s supreme council, MIC’s PN pro-tem membership is not applicable,” Asojan was quoted as saying
On Aug 23, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported as saying that MIC, Bersatu, Pas, and STAR were among five parties that formally registered to join PN
He did not reveal the fifth party
The PN federal government is comprised of 12 parties. However, not all parties agree about formally joining the coalition for the next general election
The 12 parties in the PN administration are Bersatu, BN (Umno, MCA, MIC, and PBRS), PAS, GPS (PBB, PRS, PDP, and SUPP), PBS, and STAR
On July 29, Zahid reportedly said that Umno decided against being a component party of PN. - Mkini
