Merosakkan Malaysia

Here is a video by that fellow's brother.

Well as usual I do have some comments:

1. Korupsi Politik Wang
This problem can be fixed easily. Extremely very easily. But Nazir Razak does not point to any solutions. But is Nazir Razak the right person to be even talking about corruption? I must advise the brother to read comments about him on Twitter, Whatsapp, FB etc. Especially comments by people who are outside his circle.

2. Hubungan antara kaum

The world has changed. It is no more the 1950s, 1960s or 1970s when the hubungan antara kaum was a real problem. But that was the age from before TV and flush toilets. Grandpa could still remember when they dedicated Queen Victoria's 60th Jubilee fountains in 1897 in Penang, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh etc. It was a long time ago.
The more civilised parts of the world and the "rest of the country" have moved on since then. But sadly, now in the 21st century, the "hubungan antara kaum" is code or camouflage for 'racial problems' again.  Once more the hubungan antara kaum has become an issue.  But this time it is more easily identifiable. It is simply the 'Malays versus the rest'.
Lets take the obvious one : religion. No Chinese, Indian or any other non Muslim sees any need to raise any objections to Islam that does not concern him. Say his brother or sister converts to Islam (for whatever reason) the average Chinese or Indian will just take it in his stride. An old Chinese man became a Muslim (he did it unofficially). He had a wife and grown up children who remained in their faith.  The family did not miss a beat. The kids called their father  'Mr Muslim man'.   That was it.

But when that Malay girl married that Chinese boy and converted to another faith - all hell broke lose with many Malays. Finally she had to run away from the country.
This was not the case before. In the 60s an uncle of mine married a Catholic woman  who remained a Catholic. No big deal. They did not face any hassles, legal or otherwise. They did migrate in the early 70s but not because of any religious hassles. Today such marriages are simply not allowed - by the Malays.  The Chinese Buddhists have no problems if a Chinese marries an Indian Hindu or vice versa. The Sikhs have no problems if one of them marries a Christian or vice versa.  Only the Malays have huge problems in this area.
Then there was that Malay mob that pulled down a cross from a church. The non Muslims have no problems with mosques - except when they buy the latest super duper Made in China loudspeakers but even then the non Muslims tolerate the noise. They just keep quiet.
Then there is the never ending Malay language versus other vernacular languages issue. But there seems to be less problems with English - which is also a vernacular language, in England. I suppose Nazir Razak's kids go to the best Malay language schools.
Lets not forget the education quota problem. The Chinese and Indians have no real complaints when lesser qualified Malay students earn places in the universities. But the Malays have serious problems when even highly qualified non Malays apply for places at government universities. Especially for medical faculties and such. Hence the quota system, which by the way was introduced by the late Tun Razak.

The Federal Constitution says anyone can be a Prime Minister. But there are Malays now who are saying that the Constitution should be changed - that the PM must be a Muslim.

It goes on and on. So the folks like Nazir Razak should be honest. The "hubungan antara kaum" is just an euphemism for what has become a problem again. But this time it is a clearly identifiable problem. It is the "Malays versus the rest".
You cannot tell the Indian student who has 5As in science subjects in his STPM exam that his application for a medical seat is a "hubungan antara kaum" problem !! It may gel with the village folks but as I said even the village folks have had flush toilets since the 70s.

3. pemusatan kuasa
This is not really an issue anymore.  Badawi was kicked out. Najib was thrown out. And will most likely be thrown in. Even Mahathir 2.0 was kicked out. Muhyiddin did not last long either. Now Sabri is fast losing his welcome even as a temporary janitor. If you ask me we need a strong center. Pusat mesti kuat dan berkuasa.
But we have to limit the tenure of the PM. Maximum of two four year terms sounds good. And a PM must be elected in a general election - every time. Israeli style. No such thing as Muhyiddin "replaces" Mahathir, then Sabri "replaces" Muhyiddin etc.
The country has been inflicted with many mortal wounds. I call them "pukulan maut" in Malay.
Malay Reserve Land is one of them. Just look at the Kampong Bharu debacle. The crooks are eyeing Kampong Bharu. The solution for Kampong Bharu takes less than five minutes.  Just give them all Freehold titles. Problems solved.
Look at the terrible state of the State of Kelantan. They want to keep their land to themselves. Keep it lah. It has already become the Kelantan Reservation. Similar to the Cherokee Reservation or the Apache Reservation. Soon photographers from the natural history museums (anthropology section) will come and take their pictures.

Kelantan is the poorest State in the country. Their per capita GDP (2020) is RM14,000. This is THREE times less than the Malaysian per capita GDP and almost NINE TIMES less than the per capita GDP in Kuala Lumpur.

As I said these are mortal wounds. Pukulan maut. And they are all self inflicted.

The most serious "mortal wound" that we have suffered was caused by the late Tun Razak. The repercussions from his very huge mistake has destroyed the future prospects for the entire Malay race. And some non Malays too but perhaps not as much as the Malays. I am referring to his education policies and of course the Rahman Report. The Rahman Report began the slippery slide down the slope for the country's education system.   Today no one even knows who was Rahman, when was his report written and what his report all about.
The fellow was an UMNO ultra "ketuanan Melayu" type character by the name of Abdul Rahman Talib.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with martabatkan bahasa kebangsaan but it also meant the demise of the English language.
Rahman Talib was also very religiously inclined.
Pada tahun 1952, Abdul Rahman Talib adalah individu yang mengasaskan Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama di Jabatan Pelajaran Pahang.
Rahman Talib was keen on increasing "spiritual education" in schools. This means religious education (which by the way, occupies NINE teaching periods per week at our sekolah kebangsaan now, more than science and mathematics.)
Rahman Talib was born in Temerloh in Pahang at a time when there was no TV and no roads in many places. He was educated in Temerloh, Pahang and then went for teacher's training at the Sultan Idris Teachers College (SITC) which is now known as UPSI. He began teaching in Kuantan and in 1945 he was elected the Penolong Nazir Sekolah-sekolah Melayu Pahang.

Rahman Talib then became one of the founding members of UMNO Pahang:   Abdul Rahman Talib sangat aktif dalam politik dengan menyertai Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Melayu Bersatu (UMNO).
The Rahman Talib Report was completed in 1960 and was adopted into the Education Act or something in 1961 (or 1962). And for the past 62 years this Rahman Report has been the defacto education policy of Malaysia. It has never been debated since its passage in 1961 or its successes and failures assessed in the past 62 years.
Just like the really destructive New Economic Policy (another mortal wound) which has never once been officially postmortemed or critically reviewed since its implementation in 1970.
Post Word War 2, the 1950s and 1960s was the age of decolonisation. All over Asia and Africa colonised countries were becoming Independent. It was the age of nationalism and self determination. The age of great anti-colonials like Soekarno in Indonesia, Magsaysay and Macapagal in the Philippines,  Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam, Jomo Kenyatta in Kenya, Kwame Krumah in Ghana, Mohamed Ali Jinnah in Pakistan, Nehru in India and Gamal Abdel Nasser in Egypt.

This also was the world around Rahman Talib.  Regaining national identities, regaining national culture, languages, religion was the rage in town. This is when the great mistakes were made. Or not made. Look at Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Indonesia (until 1996), the Philippines, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Ghana, Kenya etc. In our case look at Singapore - their government did not change their English based education system at all.
UMNO has never acknowledged the failure of the education policy but they have created loopholes to get around it.

The elite sekolah asrama penuh teach in English. The University MARA (UITM) teaches in English. All the medical faculties at the governemnt universities teach in English - they tried to switch to Malay but failed. They created private international schools for the rich which not only teach in English but offer the Singapore GCE and British O and A Levels. So they have created a Malay caste system - the rakyat marhaen or the ordinary Malays who go to sekolah kebangsaan and the elites who go to the other schools.

The country has indeed suffered multiple mortal wounds.
