Media Barred From Reporting On Sulu Claim Briefing

Members of the media waiting at the lobby of the Seri Pacific Hotel, where MPs are being briefed on the claim by the heirs of the Sulu sultanate.KUALA LUMPUR: Members of the media have been told not to report on a private briefing for MPs at the Seri Pacific Hotel in Kuala Lumpur regarding the Sulu heirs’ claim as it comes under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).
A government official who declined to be named warned reporters on site not to approach MPs with questions about the briefing and said there would be no press conference later tonight.
The official said the content of the briefing fell under the OSA, adding that the list of MPs who attended would also not be disclosed to the media.
MPs spotted entering the venue include Maria Chin Abdullah (Petaling Jaya), Teresa Kok (Seputeh), Mukhriz Mahathir (Jerlun), Azis Jamman (Sepanggar), Teo Nie Ching (Kulai), Shafie Apdal (Semporna) and Sim Tze Tzin (Bayan Baru).

Also seen making their way into the venue were home minister Hamzah Zainudin and foreign affairs minister Saifuddin Abdullah.
An aide to one of the MPs informed FMT that the MPs were not allowed to bring their mobile phones into the briefing.
MPs could be seen depositing their mobile devices at the registration counter.
Earlier today, Teo revealed that MPs received an invitation to a closed-door briefing on the issue at the Seri Pacific Hotel tonight.
Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Saifuddin and economic affairs minister Mustapa Mohamed are expected to brief the MPs.
Teo had criticised the briefing, saying the government should answer questions on the claim by the heirs of the Sulu sultanate in the Dewan Rakyat instead of behind closed- door. - FMT
