Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi teased his deputy Mohamad Hasan today, saying that maybe the latter will be the next prime minister.
He said if it was Mohamad's rezeki (gift), it could happen as soon as the next general election.
Speaking at the Umno general assembly, Zahid related that when it was time for Umno to nominate a prime minister candidate after Muhyiddin Yassin resigned, the party decided to put forth only one name - Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Zahid said he was not jealous that Ismail Sabri - who is his subordinate in Umno - had become prime minister, and had even nominated him.
"I have never been jealous," he said.
After recalling Ismail Sabri's nomination as prime minister, Zahid then turned to address Mohamad who is popularly referred to as Tok Mat.
"Tok Mat, if you want to be prime minister you have to wait," he added.
Saying that rezeki does not get sent to the wrong address, Zahid said with a laugh that Mohamad's turn to become prime minister could come after the 16th general election.
But he said it would still be Mohamad's rezeki if he became PM after the 15th general election - which Umno is pushing to happen soon.

"But it's ok, Bossku and I accept this," Zahid added.
Zahid had reportedly eyed to become prime minister himself but failed to get enough support.
The Umno president and his predecessor Najib, are being weighed down by corruption charges.
Najib had already been convicted in one case.
Zahid's teasing of Mohamad appears on the surface to be friendly banter.
But this is not the first time that the Umno president had poked at his deputy's political aspirations.
Brave enough
Yesterday, when commenting on Umno election, Zahid said that if Mohamad was brave enough the latter could contest for the president post.
Padang Rengas MP Nazri Abdul Aziz - who is staunchly against Zahid and Mohamad - had also claimed yesterday that the Umno deputy president was pushing for snap polls in order to become prime minister.
"It is clear that right now, he (Mohamad) is only thinking of himself. He wants to contest for Parliament and if he wins, he wants to be prime minister – that is where his interests lie," Nazri had said.
Mohamad holds only a state seat in the Pakatan Harapan controlled Negeri Sembilan.
He had served as acting Umno president from December 2018 to June 2019 when Zahid was forced to go on garden leave after the party suffered from a wave of defections.
It was under Mohamad’s watch that Umno and BN made a comeback - scoring three by-election victories in Cameron Highlands, Semenyih, and his state seat Rantau. - Mkini
