Macc Should Tell If Leaked Papers Are Real Says Mca S Wee
MCA president Wee Ka Siong says the documents point to ‘grand corruption’ if they are proven authentic.PETALING JAYA: MCA president Wee Ka Siong has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to confirm the authenticity of leaked documents allegedly linked to its investigations into the Penang undersea tunnel project
In a Facebook post, the Ayer Hitam MP claimed that the “bare denials” from Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng on the matter were not enough
He said that if the leaked documents were authentic, it involved “grand corruption”, but if they were not, then it would mean that they were forged, which was also a serious offence
Wee was referring to a series of posts by UK-based blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin on the tunnel project, in which he had included documents said to be from MACC
Earlier today, MACC confirmed that it was investigating the matter and that it had opened six investigation papers on the tunnel project, estimated to cost RM6.3 billion
In his blog posts, Raja Petra had implicated Lim, who is also the former Penang chief minister, and several state executive councillors in the investigations
Wee said that if the leaked documents were fake, MACC would have publicly denied their authenticity as this was the “usual practice”
He said the information revealed by Raja Petra was “extremely hard to dispute” as they were “numerous, very detailed and consistent”
“For the sake of Lim, the other DAP leaders and that particular BN leader implicated, MACC must confirm whether the documents leaked are authentic or otherwise,” he said. - FMT
