(Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: The rail service on the Ampang LRT line between the Bandaraya and Masjid Jamek stations was disrupted this evening, a week after the transport minister said passengers should expect such incidents.
In a Facebook post, Loke Siew Fook said the disruption was caused by the LRT tracks’ damaged bridge structure.
Passengers who were heading to Putra Heights from the Masjid Jamek station were forced to switch trains at the Hang Tuah station, resulting in a huge crowd at the station.
Rapid Rail and Rapid KL later deployed shuttle buses for the stranded passengers.
Loke, who was on-site to monitor the situation, apologised to the passengers for the inconvenience caused.
“Repair works will be hastened.” he said.
On Feb 1, Loke said there would be disruptions on the Ampang LRT line between the two stations, and shuttle buses would be provided at the Masjid Jamek station to ferry passengers to the next station.
This is not the first time service on the Ampang LRT line has been disrupted. On Jan 27, a “kinked track alignment” near the Bandaraya station led to delays in services. The LRT services has been plagued by several disruptions over the last few months, which also led to the closure of 16 stations on the Kelana Jaya line following multiple failures.
KLIA Ekspres and Transit resume services
Separately, KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit – the rail services that shuttles passengers from KL Sentral to the KLIA and klia2 airports – resumed an hour after services were suspended.
In a tweet, KLIA Ekspres said the train services were running according to schedule.
“Passengers can contact
[email protected] for refund assistance or ticket replacement.”
Earlier Facebook user Shahrin Lhorat claimed that there were long queues waiting to board the trains at KL Sentral. - FMT
