Kl Tower Not In Good Condition Repairs Necessary Says Fahmi

KL Tower is not in a good condition and requires maintenance and repair works before it is reopened again to the public, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
According to the Communications Minister, a team from his ministry and members of the public had recently visited KL Tower and found that the building is in a bad state.
“Based on videos and pictures, a lot of equipment, the kitchen, and also the revolving restaurant are not in a good or comfortable condition for visitors.
“In fact, we saw some exposed railings at decks that were lowered. So this is very concerning and we are asking the new company to immediately carry out maintenance and repairs, especially on the safety aspects,” said Fahmi.
Fahmi was speaking to reporters during his weekly briefing held prior to a Hari Raya Aidilfitri reception at the Angkasapuri Media City.
Fahmi reiterated that KL Tower is wholly owned by the Federal Government and the previous concessionaire Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd (MKLSB) was evicted because its contract ended on March 31 and it refused to vacate the premises.
“The Federal Land Commissioner looked into this issue and based on Section 425 of the National Land Code, there is a basis and we have gone through the process to allow the federal land commissioner to enter the premises to allow the new company to operate there,” he said.
“We found that there are some issues that must be immediately addressed,” he added.
Fahmi said the new date for KL Tower’s reopening will be announced soon after the repairs and maintenance works are carried out.
Fahmi also reiterated that 193 out of 205 staff members of the former concessionaire has accepted an offer by the new concessionaire – LSH Service Masters Sdn Bhd (LSHMSM)
“The new company also offered them salaries that are no less favourable than their previous salaries,” added Fahmi.
LSHSM has been awarded a 20-year concession, beginning April 1, to manage KL Tower after the concession period of MKLSB ended on March 31.
