M Saravanan said the delay in announcing projects has caused discomfort in areas represented by the unity government.
TAPAH: Development projects for constituencies should be announced well in advance to prevent constituents from feeling that areas represented by unity government MPs are being neglected, says Tapah MP M Saravanan.

Commenting on housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming’s announcement last Thursday of RM6.13 million in development and infrastructure allocations for Tapah this year, Saravanan said the timing was “too late.”
“Projects should have been announced earlier. When it’s done only after people start raising complaints, even if there was no intention (by the ministry to delay), it creates discomfort among the parties in the unity government,” he told FMT.
Just two days before the nomination for the Ayer Kuning by-election, Nga announced 33 projects for Tapah, including upgrades to public toilets, food courts, community halls, and the installation of LED streetlights.
The announcement was criticised by some quarters, including PSM’s Ayer Kuning by-election candidate Bawani KS, who said such allocations should have been made at a different time.
She claimed that the timing of the announcement, so close to the campaign period, amounted to bribery.
However, it was reported that Canning assemblyman Jenny Choy dismissed the claim, noting that Nga had announced other allocations in early 2024 — before the Ayer Kuning seat became vacant.
Meanwhile, the MIC deputy president said residents in his constituency are eager for development and public infrastructure allocations to be distributed quickly, particularly since he supports the unity government.
“They feel that despite all the talk about a unity government and cooperation, BN-held areas are still being sidelined,” he said. - FMT
