Kit Siang Claims Even Perlis Mufti Was Stunned Over Zahid S Speech At Mic Assembly

DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang claimed that even the Perlis Mufti was stunned that Umno and Barisan Nasional’s (BN) objective in the 15th General Election (GE15) was to make Malaysia a “corruption haven”. -NSTP file picKUALA LUMPUR: Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin's remarks towards Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is proof that the latter had made a feeble attempt to cover-up his speech during the MIC assembly.
DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang claimed that even the Perlis Mufti was stunned that Umno and Barisan Nasional's (BN) objective in the 15th General Election (GE15) was to make Malaysia a "corruption haven".
"I am not aware that Asri comes within Zahid's category of 'opponents'.
"This is powerful proof that Zahid had made a very weak and feeble excuse that could not explain his 'brutally frank' admission in his MIC speech," he said in his blog today.
He added that the Umno president needed to get an independent panel to determine if his recent speech on selective prosecution of Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders was twisted by his opponents.
-ADVERTISEMENT-Ads by Yesterday, Asri in a statement on Twitter said: "Shocked to hear a politician can openly admit he has to win the general election to avoid corruption charges in court. If that happens, the country would be a corruption haven."
This follows Zahid's speech during the MIC general assembly on Monday, where he said BN will face a "far worse fate" if it loses the GE15 compared to when it lost GE14.
Zahid also warned BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, BN treasurer-general Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran and his deputy Datuk Seri M. Saravanan that they could be the next victims of selective prosecution.
Following this, Zahid was vilified by opposition politicians who said this was tantamount to him admitting that BN leaders were corrupt.
However, Zahid on Wednesday said his political rivals had deliberately twisted his words to tarnish his party. - NST
