Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (left) says Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin is ‘denying his own statement’.PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin is in denial over the role the coalition’s ministers played in the dissolution of Parliament.
In a Facebook post, Zahid pointed out that Muhyiddin, who is also the National Recovery Council (MPN) chairman, previously said a general election should be called as he claimed Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had failed to manage the country and the economy well.
“He (Muhyiddin) is denying his own statement,” said Zahid.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin accused Ismail of being “irresponsible” by blaming him and the 12 PN ministers for making the government untenable and forcing the dissolution of Parliament.

Muhyiddin said Ismail had blamed PN because Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno had come under severe attack from the public by calling for elections during the flood season.
Ismail said yesterday his government had been divided after the 12 PN ministers wrote to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to object to a general election being held this year. This followed Muhyiddin’s declaration that BN was PN’s enemy at the polls.
Zahid said the action of the 12 PN ministers was aimed at humiliating the prime minister as the issue could have been discussed in the Cabinet without taking it to Istana Negara and making it publicly known.
“The 12 ministers’ action resulted in the issue of the lack of faith in the government under the prime minister’s leadership,” he said.
He said Ismail could have sacked the 12 ministers, but this would have led to a bigger crisis and shamed the country.
“It could also have lead to a vote of no confidence and other things,” said Zahid.
The best way was for the prime minister to face the King and ask for permission for Parliament to be dissolved, said Zahid.
“This will also return the mandate to the rakyat and answer Muhyiddin’s challenge to dissolve Parliament,” he said. - FMT
