Khairuddin Says He Won T Join Umno To Stick To Pas Principles
Kuala Nerus MP Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, who recently quit PAS, said he will not join Umno, according to a news report today.
The former PAS senior leader reportedly said he still holds true to Islamic principles that the party is fighting for despite having been approached by several political parties.
"Yes, there have been many parties who came to me, not to offer me to join them but they came as friends in politics and fellow MPs to give me some words of encouragement.
"There were also those who offered things to me, but this is normal. No need to think much of it because what is important is that I want to get everyone and every party to work together for the benefits of the rakyat," he said, as quoted by Utusan Malaysia.
Khairuddin reportedly spoke to the media after participating in a free motorcycle engine oil exchange programme in Padang Air, Kuala Nerus.
On March 14, the MP announced his resignation from PAS, but said he would "remain with the goals of its policies and purpose".
Shortly after his departure from PAS, Khairuddin received overtures from Umno and Amanah.
Khairuddin has recently been criticising the party for its performance in the Johor state election, blaming PAS main leaders' constant attack against Umno.
He was previously removed from his post as PAS committee member and dropped from the position as PAS Syura Ulama Council secretary.
The news report also quoted Khairuddin saying that there have been several quarters in PAS who tried to get him to change his mind about quitting the party.
However, Khairuddin said he had told them to continue with PAS. - Mkini
