Kg Sg Baru Eviction Further Talks Can Only Be Held With Developer Zaliha
Further negotiations regarding the Kampung Sungai Baru eviction must be held with the developer and not the government, said Ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
This, she said, is because the government only facilitates development conditions and the local authority’s administrative matters.
She was responding to the Kampung Sungai Baru Residents’ Rights Committee's call to hold discussions with federal government representatives on the matter, as well as urging for the operation to be halted at the moment.
“If you wanted to discuss the eviction operation, (the matter) has already been determined by the court (and) it is not the government’s decision.
“So, if the residents wish to discuss this matter further, they would have to refer it to the developer because the land already belongs to the developer,” she said in a special press conference at the Prime Minister’s Department in Putrajaya today.
Earlier, the committee's lawyer, N Surendran, said at a press conference that it would be impossible to hold discussions on the operation if the eviction is still ongoing.
Court-sanctioned
Zaliha emphasised that the eviction operation was based on a court decision and that it was carried out by court bailiffs.
She added that some residents, who have agreed to move, were offered temporary accommodations, including in the public housing (PPR), with their rent paid by the developer until the new housing development is completed.

Demolition at Kampung Sungai Baru“I was made to understand that those who agreed to move into PPR will have their rent paid by the developer until their development is completed. That’s it.”
The development in Kampung Sungai Baru has previously faced delays due to protests from residents who refused to move, while others who agreed to accept the compensation offers and temporary accommodation.
Dang Wangi district police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman suffered an injury to his head during the eviction operation against the residents who refused to move.
It was understood that he was injured when a commotion broke out after several residents tried to force their way into the operation area.
The operation, which involved cutting off electricity supplies, began early in the morning and was led by court bailiffs with the cooperation of several related agencies.
Death threats against PM strongly condemned
Zaliha also strongly condemned the recent death threats made against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in a widely circulated video after the eviction operation yesterday, stressing that such action is inappropriate and could threaten national security.
She added that the police had also received reports regarding the video, which shows an individual making such statements in linking the eviction operation with a call to commit a crime.
“I think it is inappropriate. I stated my position yesterday, and we have all heard the video that is widely circulated.

“(Kampung Sungai Baru activist) Rafidah Ibrahim said words, which I find inappropriate, more so in likening it to what had happened in Indonesia and Nepal.
“Why would we want our country not to be peaceful? Why can't we discuss this properly? I certainly do not agree with this issue being made to ride on the country’s instability.”
She further said that people should reject all forms of provocation, which could only invite tension, including calls for demonstrations that could trigger chaos.
She emphasised that a negotiated solution is the best option compared to inciting violence, in expressing her regret over the provocation that occurred yesterday.
“We are working hard to ensure the security of our country, but there are still those who try to drag issues towards national insecurity.
“I am sure many people wanted to live in peace and harmony, not just here but anywhere throughout the country.”

Earlier, a video circulating on TikTok showed a man uttering threatening words against Anwar, claiming that he had been detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
Dang Wangi deputy police chief Nuzulan Din confirmed receiving police reports over the matter and said that the case would be investigated by the Bukit Aman’s Specialised Criminal Investigation Unit.
The PKR youth wing had also lodged two police reports over the video. - Mkini
