Just Call Me Kit Says Dap Veteran After Receiving Tan Sri Title

(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang says he would prefer if people were to still call him “Kit” after having been bestowed with the title “Tan Sri”.
The former MP was awarded the Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) award during an investiture ceremony at Istana Negara today in conjunction with the official birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“Thanks, everyone for the congratulatory wishes. I (would) still prefer (for) everyone to just call me Kit,” said the former opposition leader in a Facebook post.
Ads by KioskedPSM is the second highest award in the country and it gives the recipient the right to use the honorific “Tan Sri” before their name.
Lim was also showered with congratulatory messages from netizens and several DAP elected representatives, including Kulai MP and deputy communications and digital minister Teo Nie Ching, Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng, and Ayer Keroh assemblyman Kerk Chee Yee.
“Congratulations Laoda (big brother in Mandarin). We are so proud of you. Thank you for being the person I always look up to,” said Teo, who is also the party’s national publicity secretary.
Lim’s eldest son, Guan Eng, also said he was proud of him.
Lim had been a member of DAP’s central executive committee since 1966. His first official role was as the national organising secretary. He quickly moved up the ranks and became the party’s secretary-general in 1969, and held the post for the next 30 years.
He had served several parliamentary constituencies during his political career as MP, starting with Bandar Melaka from 1969 to 1974. This was followed by Kota Melaka (1974-1978), Petaling (1978-1982), Kota Melaka (1982-1986), Tanjong (1986-1999), Ipoh Timor (2004-2013), Gelang Patah (2013-2018) and Iskandar Puteri (2018-2022).
Ads by KioskedHe announced his retirement from active politics in March last year, declaring that he would not be contesting in any seat in the 15th general election.
Lim was among 26 individuals who received the PSM award this year. They included former PAS spiritual leader, the late Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul, and two former federal ministers, Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Anifah Aman. - FMT
