Johor Dap Leader Madani Powwow Proof Of Loyalty To King
The willingness of former rivals to gather for the Unity Government Convention on Sunday was proof of their loyalty to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and country, said Johor DAP vice-chairperson Sheikh Omar Ali.
In a statement, Sheikh Omar (above) said the convention was a natural progression - following the decree by the Agong six months ago that a unity government be formed.
Sheikh Omar said 19 parties gathered at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) on Sunday had shown that former rivals were willing to let go of the past to uphold the royal decree.
"The facts are clear. Perikatan Nasional refused to join the (unity) government as decreed. In other words, PN failed to understand and act based on the royal decree," said Sheikh Omar.
He said this in response to former BN secretary-general Annuar Musa’s statement, who predicted that the convention would encourage a mass exodus from Umno.
Former BN secretary-general Annuar MusaThis was because Umno had allowed "liberals", "socialists" and those from DAP to enter the “hallowed grounds” of WTCKL, which also serves as Umno's headquarters - Annuar was reported as saying.
Annuar was expelled from Umno last December following allegations of sabotage. Currently, there is widespread speculation that Annuar will join PAS.
Sheikh Omar said the unity government's inaugural delegates convention was a new beginning for the country's effort to meet the aspirations of the rakyat and uphold the Federal Constitution.
"Annuar's shallow view is nothing but an expression of political greed for power alone that seeks to divide the people.
“And this comes at a time when the unity government under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is working hard for the rakyat to revive the economy and country," wrote Sheikh Omar. - Mkini
