It S Up To The Pm Mat Sabu Says After Mca Criticism
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu said it is up to the prime minister to evaluate and decide on his performance as a minister after MCA called for him to be removed from office.
“In our country, everyone is free to express their opinions and views.
“However, assessing the performance of ministers and deciding on ministerial appointments is the prerogative of the prime minister, with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he told Malaysiakini when contacted.
“I will do my utmost to continue to serve and work, as usual, as long as I am entrusted to be a minister in the unity government,” he said.
Mohamad was asked to respond to MCA spokesperson Mike Chong, who named three ministers who should be removed in a rumoured cabinet reshuffle for supposedly underperforming or courting controversy.
Chong had taken aim at Mohamad for shortages of food items under his watch.
“Ever since he took office, Malaysia has witnessed successive outbreaks of eggs and rice shortages.
“Not only did he botch preventing these problems from occurring, he failed to address the sharp price hikes in people’s daily essentials,” he said.
Other ministers singled out by MCA are Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming. Malaysiakini has reached out to both ministers for comment.
Apart from calling for the removal of the trio, Chong also urged Anwar to drop his finance portfolio or appoint a second finance minister so he can focus on formulating and coordinating government policies as prime minister. - Mkini
