Issue Public Apology Over Gambling Funds Claim Pas Leader Urges Pm
PAS urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to issue a public apology over his allegation that Perikatan Nasional (PN) had used proceeds from gambling companies to help finance its campaign for last year’s general election.
This comes after Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Azalina Othman Said’s remark that MACC was unable to verify claims that PN had received gambling funds.
"The answer by the minister clearly shows that the Pakatan Harapan-BN government led by Anwar is lying.
"In her answer in Parliament, the minister clearly stated that MACC conducted a thorough investigation into the matter, but found the allegations were too general and no parties were able to confirm the matter," said PAS information chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin in a statement.
Khairil (above), who is also Jerantut MP, said the fact that Anwar made the claims just weeks after coming into office, clearly showed that he was "lying."
"We urge the prime minister to issue a public apology over the slander and lies against PN."
In making the claim last December, Anwar said that PN’s election funds “partly came from gaming companies involved in special draws”.
“On the issue of gambling, certainly this is partly used to finance elections. (I have asked for) checks on that.
“Whether you call yourself a Malay party or Islamic party, notwithstanding, the (election) funds came from gaming companies,” he said.
The opposition's top figures had vehemently denied the allegation. - Mkini
