Ismail Sabri Questions Silence Of Past Epf Withdrawal Champions
Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today hit out at his critics who had rigorously pressured his administration into approving the fourth withdrawal from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) last year.
Speaking to reporters at the MCA Chinese New Year do in Kuala Lumpur this morning, he questioned where the figures had gone now when the rakyat once again wants to be allowed to withdraw their EPF savings.
"The government has to take immediate action on complaints from the rakyat. Yesterday after I was exercising, an elderly came complaining to me, asking me to urge the government to allow them to withdraw their money from EPF.
"During my time (as prime minister), there were many who were very vocal about asking us to conduct a study - whether we should allow EPF withdrawals. And finally, we allowed it.
"Many were making noises back then. I hope this time around, the people will push again. Those who had been very vocal when I was the prime minister, please do it again," he said.

They include Anwar Ibrahim, who is now the prime minister, and DAP's Lim Guan Eng.
Last week, Anwar dismissed calls for another round of EPF special withdrawals.
This comes after a group of contributors called on the prime minister to consider yet another round of early withdrawals of up to RM30,000.
Meanwhile, when asked if he anticipated the situation in BN would be calmer this year, Ismail Sabri said the coalition had always been calm.
"Of course, we are calm now. We have no problem. Is there any problem in BN?" he said. - Mkini
