Instant Sacking For Penang Umno Man Who Backed Pn In Sungai Bakap
Penang Umno deputy chief Shaik Hussein Mydin confirmed that the man in the video, who said he was Tajuddin Syarif of Batu Kawan Umno, was a party member.GEORGE TOWN: A Penang Umno member, captured in a video urging his party colleagues in Sungai Bakap to throw their support behind Perikatan Nasional, has automatically been sacked from the party.
Penang Umno deputy chief Shaik Hussein Mydin said those who did not abide by party decisions were deemed to be automatically sacked from the party, adding that Umno’s disciplinary board need not even be involved.
He also said the video proved that PN had successfully “manipulated” Penang Umno members in Sungai Bakap into supporting the opposition coalition.
“At least Umno will now be more prepared for the deceitful and sneaky strategies of PN, which supposedly champions Islam. He has clearly been exploited by PN.
“This is a wake-up call for all of us in the government,” the Umno Supreme Council member told FMT, while confirming that the man in the video was from Penang Umno.
In the video, a Tajuddin Syarif from Umno’s Batu Kawan division said Umno would be able to contest the Sungai Bakap seat in the future if PKR loses this by-election to PN.
He urged his party colleagues to support PN so that this would come true and benefit Umno in the long run.
After the seat was created in 1959, MCA held the seat for two terms before losing it to Gerakan. Gerakan then joined Barisan Nasional, with Sungai Bakap remaining in the coalition’s hands until 2008 when PKR first wrested the seat.
PKR defended the seat for two more terms before PN snatched it in last year’s Penang state election.
On Saturday, PN candidate Abidin Ismail won the seat in the by-election, with a majority of 4,267 votes, defeating Pakatan Harapan candidate Joohari Ariffin. - FMT
