I Wasn T Behind Kinabalu Move Says Shafie
The Warisan president claims it stemmed from a dispute between Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor and his then deputy, Bung Moktar Radin.Shafie Apdal says the Kinabalu Move stemmed from a dispute between Hajiji Noor and Bung Moktar, and that Warisan had nothing to do with it.KUALA LUMPUR: Warisan president Shafie Apdal maintains that the Kinabalu Move, which failed to unseat Hajiji Noor as Sabah chief minister in January 2023, was not his effort
The former chief minister said there was no basis for Kunak assemblyman Norazlinah Arif to link the attempted ousting to Warisan when it stemmed from a dispute between Hajiji and his then deputy, Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin.
“The Kinabalu Move was not my political move. You should ask them (Hajiji and Bung) why they were in conflict. We (Warisan) were in the opposition benches all the while,” he said in an interview with FMT.
Norazlinah, formerly of Warisan, had described the infamous Kinabalu Move as the ultimate betrayal of Sabahans.
She claimed Warisan members had hoped that the unity pact their party had with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan in December 2022 would see the leaders of the respective parties uniting to prioritise the rakyat.
Last month, the two-term assemblyman claimed that she and several others were informed that four or five Warisan leaders would be named to the state Cabinet if they backed the Bung-led Kinabalu Move.
Following its failure, Norazlinah and several other Warisan assemblymen left the party and threw their support behind Hajiji, while Pakatan Harapan also gave the chief minister its backing.
Several Umno assemblymen also refused to withdraw support for Hajiji, including current deputy chief minister Shahelmey Yahya, who was later suspended from his party for six years. - FMT
