Mohamad Fuzi Harun said today that he cannot comment on the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) finding police involvement in the disappearances of Raymond Koh and Amri Che Mat before he reads the inquiry report
"Let me read the report first before I can officially issue a statement on the matter," the Malay Mail quoted the inspector-general of police as saying
Earlier today, Suhakam announced that Koh and Amri were victims of enforced disappearance, with the likely involvement of state agents, like the Special Branch
Amri was abducted in late 2016, and Koh a year later. Fuzi, who is due to retire as the IGP next month, served as the chief of the Special Branch at the time. The Malaysian Insight, meanwhile, spoke to former IGP Khalid Abu Bakar, who refused to be drawn into the matter
"Ask the IGP. I am no longer the IGP," he said
While reading out the findings of the Suhakam public inquiry earlier today, Suhakam commissioner Mah Weng Kwai said that the perpetrators of both abductions were members of the Special Branch
Both Koh, a Christian pastor accused of proselytising to Muslims, and Amri, an alleged Syiah Islam adherent and proselytiser, were monitored by religious authorities prior to their disappearance
The three-member Suhakam panel also noted “uncanny similarities” in the modus operandi of both abductions – such as their cars being boxed in by three four-wheel drive vehicles, and the presence of persons in dark clothing
The panel had then recommended an independent taskforce to be established to reinvestigate both cases
Calls have also been made for Fuzi to be investigated for his alleged complicity in covering up the cases, and either resign or be removed. - Mkini
