Beau Willimon, the creator of the US-version of acclaimed political thriller TV series ‘House of Cards’, is set to create a new series on Jho Low and the 1MDB saga.
The series will be based on ‘Billion Dollar Whale: The Man Who Fooled Wall Street, Hollywood, and the World’ by Tom Wright and Bradley Hope.
Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh will be among the producers while three-time Pulitzer Prize finalist David Henry Hwang has been recruited as a playwright.
This yet-to-be-titled series will also be co-produced by SK Global, which financed the blockbuster film ‘Crazy Rich Asians’.
“It’s hard to overstate the cultural impact of this story in Asia and around the world.
“It’s both a tale of financial greed and deceit, and a darkly comedic social satire,” SK Global's co-CEOs John Penotti and Charlie Corwin said in a statement.

Executive producers Willimon and Jordan Tappis said they were drawn to “stories that reflect the complexity of the times we live in, centring on enigmatic and surprising characters” as well as “innovative ways to produce work in a quickly shifting entertainment landscape”.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring this incredible story to life for a global audience,” they said.
The ‘Billion Dollar Whale’ centres around the role of Low Taek Jho, otherwise known as Jho Low, in the 1MDB scandal.
Low was once a confidante to then prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who set up 1MDB as a sovereign wealth fund.
The company raised billions in bonds but much of that money was misappropriated.
Najib currently faces trial for misappropriating some of that money - RM2.6 billion - into his own bank account.
He has already been convicted for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd - a company with 1MDB links. He is appealing this conviction. - Mkini
