Hisham Lauds Asean S Adoption Of Recovery Framework Proposed By Malaysia

Hishammuddin (seated, 3rd left) with foreign ministry staff after the close of the 37th Asean Summit.KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein today said the biggest accomplishment for Malaysia during the 37th Asean Summit is that all Southeast Asian leaders agreed to endorse the Asean Comprehensive Recovery Framework (ACRF).
ACRF was proposed by Malaysia during the Asean+3 Summit on Covid-19 in April this year.
“This unanimous agreement not only highlights the respect by our Asean neighbours for Malaysia. In fact, it showed the capabilities and leadership of Malaysia in empowering Asean to face regional and global challenges, especially the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said at a press conference to mark the closing ceremony of the 37th Asean Summit.
He said the ACRF strategies would enhance the health systems, strengthen human security, maximise the potential of Intra-Asean Market and broader economic integration, all leading towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
He also praised the ACRF proposal made by Muhyiddin Yassin saying: “The recovery plan proposed by the prime minister in April was not only adopted by all but it was also timely and showed foresight.”
Another proud achievement during this summit was Malaysia being selected as the coordinating country for Asean-Australia strategic partnership.
“Australia has expressed its appreciation to Malaysia for successfully reaching a consensus among Asean countries to enable Asean-Australian leaders to convene once a year compared with once every two years previously.
“This also opens up opportunities for both parties to strengthen cooperation in various fields.
He said Malaysia’s position as a country-coordinator could help to establish a relationship between Malaysia and Australia to pioneer solutions for vaccines, education and travel bubble between the two countries. - FMT
