Heavy Rain Strong Winds In Several States From Tonight

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said states in the peninsula are expected to face continuous heavy rain and strong winds from tonight until tomorrow. -NSTP/AIZUDDIN SAADKUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said states in the peninsula are expected to face continuous heavy rain and strong winds from tonight until tomorrow.
MetMalaysia director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said this was due to the low pressure weather system being at 3.04 ° N 104.78 ° E in the South China Sea which was expected to hit the border areas of Pahang and Terengganu late tonight and then is forecast to move northwest across Peninsula.
He said it could cause continuous very heavy rains and strong winds in most areas in the Peninsula.
"The latest forecast shows a likelihood of this system rising to the level of the Tropical Depression is low," he said in a statement here today.
Helmi said at the same time the monsoon is taking place and MetMalaysia had also issued a Continuous Rain Warning (Danger, Severe and Alert) in several states until tomorrow.
He said the Continuous Rain Warning (Danger) involved Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang (Jerantut, Kuantan, Pekan).
Continuous Rain Warning (Bad) involves Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Temerloh, Maran, Rompin).
Continuous Rain Warning (Warning) involves Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang (Bentong, Bera), Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Johor (Segamat, Mersing).
"Extremely heavy rains over a long period of time can result in flooding in low -lying areas.
"Therefore, the public in the area is advised to be more careful and prepared to face any eventuality," he said.
He said strong winds and rough seas in the waters of the East Coast of the Peninsula covering Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and east Johor as well as Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan were forecast to continue until Feb 28.
The latest weather information can be obtained through the website, myCuaca car app, and official social media.
The public can also contact the MetMalaysia hotline for any further inquiries. - NST
