“The state government has spent a lot to eradicate hardcore poverty, but from the beginning, we identified 700 individuals, and that has been reduced to 300,” he said after attending the state government’s Deepavali celebration.
He said financial aid of RM400 was provided, topped up with zakat funds and aid from the social welfare department for Muslims, while for non-Muslims, there is aid from the state government and welfare department.
Amirudin said his government’s focus was now on ending poverty in Selangor through planned methods to be tabled in the state’s 2026 budget.
He said there are nearly 2,000 people on the verge of hardcore poverty from being bedridden or through pressing problems.
“We will try to help solve their problems so that they do not fall into the hardcore poverty category and also help them exit poverty,” he said.
Amirudin said a report on poverty is provided every six months. “We will move them out with existing aid support, while for those bedridden or unable to work, we will try to help or at least enable them to sustain a basic living,” he said. - FMT
